Grade 1 and 2 Field Trip: Manning Air Tanker Base
MES and Rosary School Grades 1 and 2 joined up for a fun field trip to the Manning Air Tanker Base.
The Alberta Wildfire staff had four stations set up for the students to learn about Forest Ecology, Lookout Towers and how to use a compass and firefinder, Birddogs and Air Tankers, and some of the equipment used to help stop wildfires such as pumps, hoses, and long-term fire retardant.
The students were able to go inside the Q400 tanker and talk to the pilots, look inside a bucket used for helicopter operations, and try out a pump and hose system to put out a small campfire.
Thank you to everyone at the Manning Air Tanker Base for organizing this fun, exciting, and educational event for our students!
